2000 Over 30's Men's Team

Warwick Potts - Coach (Woodlands)

Peter Gladigau - Captain (Woodlands)
Simon Morris (Woodlands)
Tony Forde (Reynella)
Chris Sentance (Reynella)
Wayne Sheffield (Reynella)
Gary Bartlett (Windsor)
Rob Lengyel (Windsor)
Ian Waters (Woodlands)
Darren Hammond (Windsor)
Lee Cox (Woodlands)

Final Placing - 3rd

Wins against - Victoria, Western Australia, New South Wales (1st Semi).

All Australians - Peter Gladigau

NB: Paul Devine (former Windsor and SA player) made the team for New South Wales. As this is his first year with NSW we can claim a part of his good cricket.

Player of the Series placings - Ian Waters (2nd)

"Jammo" had a great carnival having been put into the tough opening batting position for the first time. Ian would be the first to admit he isn't a ready made opener, but his ability to play straight and know his own strengths and weaknesses enabled him to give his team a great start every time. He and his partner in crime Tony Forde, consistently gave the team a 30+ start to build on.

Find of the tournament - Rob Lengyel

Rob went into the carnival hoping to get a game, and ended up being one of the best performers thanks to his tireless work rate and his never say to die attitude. Even near the end of the carnival when a torn hamstring was really hampering his movement, he continued to sprint and dive to make his ground, and hit the bowling crease hard.

Great Spectator Moments - Peter Gladigau, Gary Bartlett, Tony Forde

Both Glads and Gary provided a spectacular catch in the game against Victoria which the boys had to win to make the finals. This was a fantastic game of cricket, with great stuff done by both sides, and the SA boys giving their all and winning in the end. The crowd was quite amazed to see the "agile" Peter Gladigau take a David Boon like catch at cover, mind you we weren't as surprised as "Horse" himself.

Tony Forde provided a great moment after he and Jammo scored 39 to win the first skin against Victoria and therefore make it easier for the team to make it to the finals. His batting was fantastic, but his "Strength and Honour" salute to the incoming batters was inspirational.

In order to provide inspiration for this important game, Glads suggested the team go and see "Gladiator" at the movies. This provided the strength and honour salute that got them through the Vic game, and also the 1st Semi against the highly fancied New South Wales side.

Rob Adams (Reynella)

Final Placing - 6th

Wins against - None

All Australians - None

Find of the tournament - Rob Adams, Rick Hassan

Rob was only added to the squad with 3 weeks to go, and therefore didn't have the benefit of weeks of training with the team and learning the team rules and disciplines. Rob went away with the attitude of enjoying himself and hoping to get 1 or 2 games. He ended up playing 2 games, with his first against Northern Territory giving him the statistics of 0 off his 2 overs (-4 and 4) and 14 off his own bat. Rob and Jonesy had to chase 54 to win the game, and got within 6 runs until their luck ran out.

Rick really turned it on with the ball in every game he played, and ended up being the "go to" bowler for skipper Wayne Jones when a wicket was needed. Rick conceded a total of 4 runs off his first 4 overs, and continued to bowl "in the box" consistently for the whole tournament.

Great Spectator Moments - Rob Adams and Tony Diener

In the last game of the carnival, we played Queensland with no hope of making finals and just our pride to play for after a disappointing tournament. Queensland had been the gun side of the week (they went on to win the Nationals comfortably) and so the boys were determined to put up a good performance. Tony and Rob went out to bat, and just backed their ability and used guts and determination to do whatever it took to keep the score moving. Rob's first ball against the might Queensland, 7 scored !! These two proceeded to knock 27 off the first 2 overs, and Queensland were forced to bring on their skipper and really step things up as their skin of 39 was in real danger. Unfortunately the boys got out once or twice, and that got the Queenslanders going. A fantastic effort from two batters who haven't been blessed with heaps of natural ability, but backed themselves and showed what playing for your State is all about.

All Australians - Trudy Glazbrook, Lee-Anne Hunter

Find of the tournament - Trudy Glazbrook

It's unusual to list Trudy as a "find", as she has played a lot of State cricket. However Trudy finally put together the week of cricket we all knew she was capable of, and deservedly received recognition in the Australian side. Trudy's bowling was miserly during the carnival, and her ability to shatter teams with her batting (along with fellow Australian rep Lee-Anne Hunter) made this the stand out Nationals for Trudy.

Great Spectator Moments - Cathy Shulz

In the game against Queensland, everything was very tense, and the SA girls were giving it a real dip (they went on to win 2 skins), and then Cathy came on to bowl. Cathy played the tournament wearing a hat, and naturally removed it when it was her turn to bowl. What the spectators saw as Cathy ran in to bowl, was the worst hat hair ever seen at a National Championships. "Combed with a Pork Chop" was the main cry from the stands of ever laughing and pointing spectators. Suffice to say Cathy was a little more conscious of her hairdo for the remainder of the carnival.
