Will "The Schlong" move?
John Lonergan, captain/coach of the Reynella Rams, indicated that he would be leaving
the Rams due to a dissatisfaction with the Management at Reynella.
However a change in Management in September 2000 may be enough to keep John as a Ram.
UPDATE: New Management at Reynella, "The Schlong" remains a Ram !!
Famous Guards to move South
This rumour came up last year, but this time it has a little more substance. Some current
Mens State players could be looking for a change of scenery, and may join the Woodlands
Cougars.
If the names are being bandied about do actually leave, this could decimate the Guards and
will really test their depth.
A Ram Resurgence
Rumour has it that the Rams have secured a current Shark A Grader, and a former Shark
A grader in an effort to increase the depth at Reynella. With the promising end to the
season for the Rams (they finished 5th in the A Grade), players are starting to see
that this could be a good time to join the ship.
As at February 2001 it's pretty certain that Matthew Tonks will be playing for the Rams
in 2001. Matt has played the last couple of years in A Grade with the Sharks, but has
a lot of friends at Reynella and is looking forward to coming home.
A couple of other possibilities of joining the Rams are Matt Verrall coming back to
Indoor Cricket after a couple of years, and Jeremy Astill who is a former State Player, and
has given up his Winter sport of SnowBoarding and wants to play Superleague again.
Saints Lose Key Players
2000 A Grade Captain Simon McKenzie has moved to Sydney and so the Saints will be without
his services this year. Simon has proved the Saints most consistent player in recent years
and will be missed.
Looks like "Big Cam" will also be leaving the Saintly home, and will be joining the Sharks.
Flea may become a Cougar !! This is the latest rumour to surface during the Summer. Apparently Flea is
after a bit of a change (even after winning the last 2 Premierships with the Guards) and may be moving to Woodlands
for the 2000 Season.
Rumour has it that Simon "Spook" Morris may be coming back to Reynella in a bid to resurrect his 'A' Grade career.
Spook can obviously see that with the potential flood of quality players coming to Woodlands in 2000, his opportunities
to play 'A' Grade may be limited. The Rams could certainly use an experienced and talented campaigner like Spook, and
I'm sure he would be welcomed back. However with the Rams going through a rebuilding phase at the moment, maybe another
"30+" player isn't what they need.
Now that Brad Parker is a Cougar, rumour has it a couple more Stepney Saints may be making
the move down South to join their ex-team mate.
With the Reynella Rams once again struggling in the A grade, the rumour mill (mostly started by the boys at Woodlands)
has John Lonergan possibly going back to play with his old Camden team mates. However it is believed John may stay
a Ram, to try and help the club become competitive at A grade level.
With the Reynella Rams struggling at the moment, their may be a few of the Morphett Vale Shark B and
C graders who believe their chances of playing A grade would be improved if they made the switch to Reynella.
It is a well known fact that John Lonergan, the Rams Coach, is on the look out for a few additions to the Club to
help bolster the ranks.
Don't be surprised if a certain P Gladigau fronts up as a Woodlands Cougar during next year's Superleague competition.
The ex-Ram (and former SA Paceman) filled in for State Coach Mark Hogan while Hogey was on Nationals duties.
Big Bulls nearly move South
There were some doubts hanging over the future of the Salisbury Bulls, and some of the top 'A' Grade players were looking at moving to Woodlands. This would have helped in evening up the competition by strengthening an improving Woodlands line-up. However as all is looking rosy at Salisbury, the potential Cougars will remain with the Bulls for 1999.
Spook no longer a Ram
The enigmatic Simon "Spook" Morris has decided to hang up his 'A' grade shirt, and venture to Woodlands to play Master's Cricket. Spook has played many years of 'A' Grade for both the old Camden Tigers, and more recently the Reynella Rams. Those at the Rams are sad to see him go, as he was an inspiration to all the players with his energy and enthusiasm for the game. Good Luck at the Cougars Old Man !!

A New Blue for the Sharks
The Morphett Vale Sharks may have picked up the services of Shane Dietz, who has moved to South Australia in an attempt to play Shield cricket. Shane is from NSW, and is currently playing Grade cricket at Southern District C.C. as a Keeper/Batsman. Shane made the NSW Indoor squad the last 2 years, but as he was in the Sheffield Shield squad he was not allowed to play. If all goes well, Shane will suit up for the Sharks in 1999, making them an even stronger unit, and this could be just what they need to finally crack that premiership.

Reynella to lure back Masters
The question at Reynella at the moment is will the old Reynella Masters return after winning a premiership at Woodlands in 1998. Now that the Masters is back to Over 30's Reynella will be able to fill a team, but it will be relying on some of the Reynella boys coming home.
Further on this, it looks like Reynella may have quite a strong Masters team in 1999, with State Players Tony Starr and Glenn Sutton returning, and a few "recently turned 30" players trying their hand at the Masters game.
State Teams speak up
A petition of over 300 signatures, including some senior members of ISSA, has been sent to
the AICF in protest over the compulsory Presentation Package put in place at the last couple
of National Championships.
Well done to Andrea McCauley (Windsor and Womens Over 30s) and Angela Lee (Stepney and Womens Over 30s) for organising this.
Geo bundles out the English
In his recent tour of England with the Australian team, Michael George picked up the rather decent bowling figures
of 5/-14 in one of the warm-up games. Geo's best bowling in the Tests was another "5 for", but this time he got
smashed around the park for -3 !!
Negative Nationals for Chappy
For those who don't know by now, Darren Chapple (Cougars Centre Manager)
had the pleasure of experiencing the Queensland juggernaut during the Masters Championships at the Gold Coast during 1997. Chappy must have said something to the Queenslanders, as they absolutely destroyed him and his partner. The partnership score, -21 !! For those who don't know, at the Nationals when you score a minus, the score flashes for the entire game.
6-Ball Overs for 1999
The ISSA Cricket Committee have decided to reduce the number of balls in an over during superleague games from 8 to 6. This is driven by the fact that the AICF are currently looking at doing this for the National Championships. It is an attempt to shorten the length of the games so that the last game is not so late, and also to hopefully bring the scores down and make it more competitive.
STOP PRESS -- ISSA have just announced that Superleague will go to 6 ball overs, however
the AICF are staying with 8 ball overs for the Nationals. This may cause some concern for those State players who have to convert from 6 to 8 ball overs. The good players will simply adjust. Masters back to Over 30's
After the experiment of having Masters at Over 35's last year, much to the annoyance of those players between 30 and 35 who were playing State Over 30's, the Masters format is now back to Over 30's to allow players to move straight from 'A' grade to Masters. Australian Coach works with State Team
ISSA and the AICF have put their money where their mouth is and got behind the SA Men's Open side by paying for the Australian Coach David Lewis to come and visit Adelaide and work with the Open and Under 18's. On Sunday 22 November David talked to the State Team and gave them an insight into how they can improve by that 15-20% required to consistently play finals cricket.
All the players and the Coach Mark Hogan learnt a lot from David, who told us a few home truths about our game, and also highlighted the areas he thought we did well. There is already some positives out of the session with some of the front-half players learning new ways to improve their "tapping" techniques. Congratulations to ISSA for showing faith in the team by spending the money on the Coach of the World Champions.

Extra! Extra! Read All About It
The Advertiser recently ran a small article in their "Inside Cricket" section about the Men's Open side for 1999. The story was based around skipper Shane Martin as he is well known in Grade cricket circles. See Story below:
Shane Skipper
Shane Martin, the 1996-97 Bradman Medallist, has been sidelined from grade cricket with a serious knee injury - but it has not stopped him from being maned captain of the SA men's indoor cricket team. The Glenelg allrounder, who snared 56 wickets and scored 335 runs in
his medal winning season, is a star for indoor superleague team Salisbury Bulls and last year
was rated among the top 20 indoor players in Australia.
The SA team to compete in next July's national indoor championship in Brisbane is: Martin,
Chad Campbell, Matt Verrall, Brett Martin, John Lonergan, Scott Heywood, Andy Neville, Brad
White, Michael George, Ashley Tharrelson, Coach: Mark Hogan.
