Quiz Night for Geo
Thankyou to all who came to the Quiz night for Geo. It was a great night and I believe Geo raised enough money so that he now only needs to fork out spending money himself. Well done to all SA Indoor Cricketers and Netballers, for getting behind one of our own.

The Nationals aren't too bad compared to daily training and constant game play. The people over here have been pretty good but we have certainly copped our fair share of abuse especially from people with no idea - whats new. My injury was a slight twinge in the hamstring and a collision which jarred my knee so I opted not to field and seek treatment for it. I spent a few hours in the pool and on the physio table - I strap both legs each game to avoid a tear of muscles which are bordering on being thrashed. I am hitting them pretty well and have improved my game to a better level mainly due to the intensity level required but also from Dave Lewis the coach. The boys are excellent, we all get along very well and have had many fantastic time and the beers flow after games as long as we don't have injuries. We are playing well as a team as are the Poms who let themselves down by being slack at times. I'm fielding at Leg 1 and rove the court when Muir and the Otto's bowl.
The Third Test was an excellent game and we really exposed them physically and mentally in front of the most hostile crowd of the tour - a blew nearly erupted when some pisshead called Dion an "ABO". I have never fielded so well as I did in the Third Test - Leg 1 is wicked when the bowlers bowl at the hip with pace and accuracy and I took the chances. Some smart arse, when I fielded cover shouted out, " This digger is the smallest cover in history!" I was not too impressed and when I took a diving catch I think he realised I did not appreciate his assessment of me. Enough of me and cricket - how are you all going? I hope you are well and catching up upon my return would fantastic - plenty to tell and I'm sure things are moving for you all. Please say hello to everyone for me and drop me a line if you get a chance.
I really miss everyone and I guess you realise the friends you have when you think of positives in the tough times. Thankyou again for all your thoughts and I promise to finish the tour as I have been playing.
Have a beer / coke/ kahlua for me ,
Regards, MICHAEL GEORGE (GEO).

Neil Hancey from WA, who was originally selected in the squad, has had to pull out of the team, and our man Geo was the next best in the country.
Michael has proved to be a class act since starting his Open career in 1995, when he received a call up one week before the Nationals to replace the injured Brad Parker. Since then "Geo" has played some outstanding cricket, and is known throughout Australia as an extremely solid opening batsman, an athletic fielder and keeper, and a clever bowler.
As a fellow State team mate, it makes me proud to see someone like "Geo" get rewarded for all the hard work he has put in over the years to reach this goal. I know I can speak for the rest of the 1999 squad when I say that noone deserves this more than Michael.
In order to get to England, Geo will require some serious funds, and over the next couple of months we will be organising some events which will hopefully help this struggling student come up with the cash required. So if you're asked to help Geo make the trip to England, dig deep, because he deserves it.

A few facts about "Geo"
1. In 1994 Geo competed in the Under 19 National carnival, and was involved in a minus 28
partnership against Queensland. Geo had minus 18 off his own bat.
2. As stated above, Geo only made the 1995 side as a last minute replacement for Brad Parker.
He played 2 games in that tournament, and played quite well.
3. In 1997 Geo played an amazing carnival, where he batted SA to victory on 2 occasions, and
bowled so well he was basically the "go to" bowler when SA needed something. The rewards for his
efforts were being named in the Squad of 16 for the Australian team, however as SA missed the finals
by 1 point, his spot was taken by another player whose team did make the finals.
4. In 1998 Geo made the move from Stepney to Morphett Vale in a bid to improve his cricket.
Since then Morphett Vale has made the 1998 Grand Final, and won the 1999 Quit Challenge series, not
just a coincidence !!
5. In 1999 Geo was given the job of keeping for the State side after "Flea" pulled out. Geo
had not kept in 1998 (he played sweeper) and therefore had to work hard to ensure he was capable
of keeping in a National carnival. Geo kept for 8 games in a row, and I would suggest that if you
tapped him on his throwing shoulder even now, he would still grimace in pain due to the pummelling his shoulder received.
